Depending upon size and situation, tie-bars may be used to give a leaded panel added strength and stability. These can be straightforward i.e. horizontal (occasionally vertical) or may be made bespoke to fit the particular design of the window. In the latter case, the aim is to hide the bar along the lead lines so they are inconspicuous to the casual eye. Stainless steel is the material of choice these days although brass, bronze and mild steel are also used. The leaded panel is tied onto the bar using 1.5 mm copper tie-wires.
